Benton Fire Department - Spring 2015 Hydrant Testing
Starting Wednesday, April 8th, the Benton Fire Department, in coordination with Benton Utilities, will be testing public fire hydrants within the city limits of Benton. To pose as little of an inconvenience as possible, Fire Department crews will conduct testing during daylight hours. Testing will last for approximately 3 weeks.
The Fire Department conducts fire hydrant testing twice a year — in April and October — to ensure the hydrants are operating properly and can be used in the event of a fire or other emergency that requires water. The hydrant flows also help to improve water quality by turning over water in low-usage mains.
Residents may notice the following conditions during testing:
• Drop in water pressure
• Slight discoloration of the water
If citizens notice any discoloration, they are encouraged to open a faucet for a brief period of time until the water runs clear.
